Dubai Abu Dhabi news highlights: Iran’s military on Saturday warned the UAE against allowing any attacks from its territory on two disputed islands in the Gulf, near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, and threatened to attack the city of Ras Al Khaimah. Meanwhile, the United States reportedly announced plans to deploy additional warships and Marines to the West Asia region.

Among the latest developments are:

Authorities in Dubai on Saturday confirmed that loud sounds heard across parts of the city were the result of successful air defence interception operations, signalling the spillover of hostilities into the Gulf.

In a further escalation, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that the UAE’s port city of Ras Al Khaimah could be targeted if Iran’s strategically located islands – Abu Musa and Greater Tunb – are attacked again. These islands lie near the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global transit route, and remain under Iranian control despite being disputed by the UAE.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia said it intercepted 20 drones within just a few hours in its eastern region, home to key oil infrastructure. Officials reported no casualties or damage.

The escalation follows intensified Iranian retaliation after Israeli strikes on its South Pars gas field. The conflict has already resulted in heavy casualties, with over 1,300 people reported dead in Iran. In Israel, at least 15 people have been killed in missile attacks, along with four deaths in the West Bank. Additionally, 13 US military personnel have been killed.

The conflict has also disrupted global energy markets, pushing Brent crude prices to around $108 per barrel from roughly $70 before the war.

Amid the escalating situation, Ministry of External Affairs said six Indian nationals have died and one person remains missing in separate incidents across the Gulf region, highlighting the risks faced by expatriates caught in the conflict zone.

Dubai’s economy showing early signs of stress

The crisis is beginning to weigh on Dubai’s economy, particularly its real estate sector. Analysts report a sharp decline in transaction volumes, down 37% year-on-year and 49% month-on-month in early March, reported Reuters.

Properties in premium locations, including areas near the Burj Khalifa and Palm Jumeirah, are seeing discounts of up to 15%. Shares of Emaar Properties have dropped more than 26% since the conflict began.

While investors are increasingly cautious, some continue to seek discounted deals, indicating that market activity has slowed but not stopped.

Middle East airlines scale back operations

Aviation across the region remains severely disrupted due to airspace restrictions and safety concerns.

Emirates is operating a reduced schedule following partial airspace reopening, while Etihad Airways is running limited commercial services from Abu Dhabi.

Saudi carrier Flynas has suspended several regional routes, and Qatar Airways is operating a restricted flight schedule. The disruptions have stranded thousands of passengers and continue to affect travel across key Gulf hubs, Reuters reported.

With threats expanding to strategic Gulf locations, rising casualties, economic strain and disruptions to global oil and aviation sectors, the West Asia conflict is increasingly taking on a broader regional dimension, raising concerns of further escalation in the days ahead.

Iran fires missiles farther than ever as its main nuclear enrichment site is struck again

Britain condemned Iran for targeting a joint U.K.-U.S. base in the Indian Ocean and Iran’s main nuclear enrichment site was struck again as the war in the Middle East entered its fourth week.

Iran’s attack on the Diego Garcia air base — about 2,500 miles (4,000 kilometers) away — suggested Tehran has missiles that can go farther than it had previously acknowledged, or that it had used its space program for an improvised launch.

Iran’s capital saw heavy airstrikes overnight and into the morning, residents said, as thousands of worshippers converged on Tehran’s grand mosque for prayers marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said attacks would “increase significantly” next week. He spoke shortly after fragments from an Iranian missile slammed into an empty kindergarten near Tel Aviv. No casualties were reported.

The attacks — and threats of more to come — indicate the war shows no sign of abating as its effects are felt far beyond the Middle East, raising food and fuel prices.

Dubai Abu Dhabi news LIVE: Saudi Arabia, Turkey condemn Israeli strikes on Syria

Saudi Arabia termed the attacks “blatant aggression” and urged the global community to intervene, while Turkey described the strikes as a “dangerous escalation” that must be stopped.

Israel said it targeted southern Syria in response to attacks on the Druze community in Sweida province, where recent clashes have left several fighters dead and residential areas hit by shelling. Syria rejected the justification as “fabricated,” accusing Israel of breaching its territorial integrity. The strikes come amid a wider regional conflict triggered by US-Israeli action against Iran, raising fears of further escalation even as Syria risks being drawn deeper into the crisis.

Dubai news LIVE: US begins 172 million-barrel emergency oil release

Dubai news LIVE: The United States is set to release the first batch of crude from its emergency reserves as part of a larger 172 million-barrel plan aimed at cooling soaring fuel prices. Around 45 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve will begin entering the market, boosting supply as oil prices remain elevated due to disruptions linked to the Iran conflict.

The move comes as shipments through the Strait of Hormuz – which handles about 20% of global oil – remain heavily disrupted, pushing global prices above $100 per barrel. While the release is expected to ease supply pressure, fuel prices in the US have already hit near four-year highs, raising concerns over inflation and cost of living ahead of key political milestones.

Dubai Abu Dhabi news LIVE: Middle East conflict could spark global inflation, India may be cushioned, says SBI report

Dubai Abu Dhabi news LIVE: A widening Middle East conflict could trigger a fresh wave of global inflation if disruptions spread across supply chains, trade routes and financial markets, according to a report by SBI Research. The report warns that while the immediate impact may be limited, prolonged tensions could push up energy prices, weaken business sentiment and create ripple effects across the global economy.

For India, the impact may be relatively contained, though not negligible. The report highlights risks to crude oil imports – of which India depends on imports for nearly 90% – and remittances from Gulf countries. However, diversified oil sourcing and policy measures could help cushion the blow, even as higher oil prices may still nudge inflation and widen the current account deficit if the conflict drags on.

Dubai Abu Dhabi news LIVE: United cuts flights as fuel costs soar

Dubai Abu Dhabi news LIVE: United Airlines is trimming flights as soaring oil prices – driven by the ongoing conflict involving Iran – push up fuel costs. The airline plans to cut around 5% of its schedule, mainly targeting low-demand and off-peak routes, while also suspending some international services to stay profitable.

For passengers, this could mean higher ticket prices and fewer flight options. Airlines are already raising fares to offset rising fuel bills, with demand still strong despite the cost surge. Experts warn oil could stay above $100 per barrel for years, meaning travel may remain expensive and slightly less convenient in the near future.

Dubai Abu Dhabi news LIVE: US deploys more troops to West Asia, says report

Dubai Abu Dhabi news LIVE: US President Donald Trump said his administration was considering “winding down” military operations in West Asia even as the United States announced it was sending more warships and Marines to the region and Iran threatened to attack tourist sites worldwide, Associated Press repor

The mixed US messages came after another climb in oil prices plunged the US stock market, and was followed by a Trump administration announcement that it will lift sanctions on Iranian oil loaded on ships, a move aimed at wrangling soaring fuel prices.

Dubai news LIVE: What sanctions on Iran oil has Trump eased | Explained

Dubai news LIVE: The United States has temporarily relaxed sanctions on Iran’s oil exports, allowing the sale and delivery of Iranian crude already loaded on ships for 30 days, until April 19. The move is aimed at cooling surging global oil prices amid the ongoing conflict, potentially adding around 140 million barrels to the market. The waiver also permits limited imports into the US to complete existing transactions, though it remains unclear how much oil will actually flow there.

The decision is part of a broader push by the administration to stabilise fuel prices as supply disruptions intensify, especially around the Strait of Hormuz. The easing is expected to benefit major Asian buyers, who have historically relied on discounted Iranian crude.
